Where Do I Even Begin? Help 🏠

Hi everyone! I have now clue where to start and I’m overwhelmed. Looking for some guidance/recommendations as I start planning a move and possible remodel of my mom’s home. I’ll be moving in with her and we’re considering using a HELOC/home equity line to update the house and make the space work better for both of us long term. She will be moving to the ADU and I will be taking over the home, with my family.

I honestly have no clue where to begin with this process 😅

A few things I’m trying to understand:
• Should I start with an architect, designer, or general contractor?

• Any recommendations for trustworthy contractors/designers/architects in the Los Angeles/Glendale area?

• Any advice on budgeting, permits, timelines, or avoiding costly mistakes?

The remodel may include opening up spaces, updating kitchen/bathrooms, improving functionality/storage, and possibly larger layout changes depending on budget. Pavers for driveway, backyard… New roof. Whole- home remodel.

Would love any recommendations, experiences, tips, or lessons learned. Thank you in advance 🙏✨
