I was looking to add an outlet to a wall that has a shower on the other side. I thought I'd just get power from another outlet, run the wire through the crawlspace, drill up from the crawlspace, fish wire up, add outlet, easy peasy...or so I thought.
From the crawlspace, I saw the water lines for the shower, so knew to stay clear of those, just picked a spot 6 inches or so away where I thought the wall would be. Started drilling, then was having a hard time getting through, pulled my drill bit out, and saw thin-set-like material on the bit and 1 drop of water come down. Then it was pretty clear what I had done. I was using a wood spade bit and it was dulled out, so know for sure I hit some tile. I did open up the drywall and didnt see any other holes, so must have just barely missed. I put a bucket under the spot and it does drip small amounts of water so we have now stopped using the shower.
Anyways, looking to try and fix this now. I had my dad look at it who is pretty good with this type of stuff, but also lives on the other side of the country so can't really help much until his next trip. He said probably the only way to fix would be to remove tile where we think the hole is, patch the liner, then reinstall tile. He also had the thought that maybe if we could remove a section of the subfloor from below without cutting the liner, say like a 6"x6" section, patch the liner, then reinstall that piece. The question is how to actually remove it without cutting more of the liner. Our thoughts were maybe using an oscillating tool to try and cut like 80%, then maybe bang it out or something?
Anyone think 2nd method could work? Or any other ideas? I'd like to avoid removing tile if possible but if it's the only way I guess it is what it is. Please avoid any harsh comments, I feel stupid enough as it is.
