I’m building a two-sided marketplace called Tarea, and I want WhatsApp to be a major part of the experience for pros on the platform.

The idea is that pros can receive important notifications directly on WhatsApp, things like new bookings, new messages, quote approval links etc, basically using WhatsApp as a primary notification channel alongside email and SMS.

I also want to explore allowing pros to send marketing broadcasts to their clients through WhatsApp, similar to what they might already do with SMS or email campaigns.

WhatsApp Business API is pretty new territory for me, so I’m trying to understand what is actually feasible and what the best approach would be.

A few specific questions I’m thinking about:

  • Does it make sense to use WhatsApp as a main notification channel in a marketplace like this?
  • What are the limitations around sending notifications like booking updates or messages?
  • For marketing, how realistic is it to support broadcasts at scale for multiple businesses on one platform?
  • Any gotchas around templates, opt in requirements, or account structure when doing this in a multi tenant setup?

Would really appreciate any guidance, recommended providers, or things you wish you knew before implementing WhatsApp in a product like this.
