I don’t understand how more people aren’t calling this out.
Bruce Springsteen built his entire identity on being the voice of the working class. Not just in his music, but in his image, his messaging, everything. Factory towns. Struggle. Ordinary people trying to get by.
But now?
He’s a billionaire. His tours generate hundreds of millions. And his tickets regularly hit into the thousands.
And before anyone says “he doesn’t know” or “blame Ticketmaster”, he’s literally addressed it himself. He’s said they looked at what the market would bear and priced accordingly. He acknowledged the backlash and said you have to “own the decisions.”
So this isn’t ignorance.
It’s a choice.
And that’s where the hypocrisy comes in.
He shows up at “No Kings” rallies and talks about inequality, power, and standing up for regular people.
But his concerts?
They look exactly like a kingdom.
There’s the king on stage. There are the people wealthy enough to get in. There are the loyal fans defending it no matter what. And everyone else is outside the gates.
That’s not “for the people.” That’s a luxury experience.
And yeah, I know the response: “but he donates.”
If you’re worth over a billion dollars, even huge donations are a tiny percentage. That doesn’t change the fact that your actual product is priced in a way that excludes the very people you built your identity around.
And for everyone getting ready to get angry at this, ask yourself why.
At what point are you just choosing not to see the contradiction?
How are you convincing yourself that this still represents the same guy who built his career on being “one of you”?
Because this isn’t about whether he’s talented. He obviously is.
It’s simpler than that:
You can’t spend decades presenting yourself as the voice of the working class while running a system that prices them out, and expect people not to notice.
At some point, just be honest.
Say it’s a premium product. Say demand is high and you’re maximizing it.
But don’t keep pretending it’s “for the people.”
Because when your concerts start to feel like a kingdom, “No Kings” starts to sound like branding, not belief.
And "The Boss"?
He's your monarch.
