dwarf cherry tree recommendation for zone 7a

I saw those commercials about the dwarf cherry trees that give big fruits and stay short. I don't necessarily want to buy from them since I know YT ads tend to be gimmicks. I also saw that even the shortest cherry trees can get well over 6 ft tall, so I assume proper pruning is what prevents growth and not so much the genetic makeup of the tree.

Any tips on what to get? I do have a cherry tree at home, but it is way too tall for us to get all the fruits. Can I take a branch from that and grow a tree? What sort of tree sapling should I get if I go the purchase route?
