[spoiler] Ch.166 - Clocks & Time Significance
edit: idk why my images weren't included in the post but I've added them now 🎉
for everyone who thought about Enjin being related to chimeras, it is actually written on the truck in the most recent page spread (end of Ch.166), but that's not what this post is about LOL.
I'm trying to figure out the significance of the times shown on the clocks during Enjin's flashback pages. They are as follows:
Ch.139 "Mymo The Ruler", pg.1 - 05:05:00 (PAST) Enjin's POV in his rundown orphanage; two housemates are fighting over a book while others just sit.
Ch.143 "Danger", pg.1 - 08:30:00 (PAST) Enjin's POV down at a path in his town when he 'snuck out to go find someone who looked like they had money.'
Ch.151 "Something Inhuman", pg.1 - 10:15:00 (PAST) Enjin's POV looking at all his housemates standing beside the man who eventually turns their home into a slave market.
Ch.162 "Grandpa!!", pg.1 - 04:59:41 (PRESENT) The watch face is visibly cracked, and it is approaching the time for the Five o' Clock Radio Announcement.
Ch.164 "The Sixth", pg.16 - 12:25:00 (PAST) continues into Ch.165 "A Name", Enjin is looking down at the ground as Alto Surebrec holds an umbrella over his head. There is a huge trash beast impaled on a spike coming from the ground but unknown if this is Alto's doing.
Ch.166 "Obsession", pg.13 - 05:15:08 (PRESENT) Enjin is putting on the watch as he recalls Alto's words to never use it, and that people think of one power when they see a clock, and if he does use it then 'there will be an enormous price to pay'.
Ch.139, 143, 151, 162, 164, 166
---
So on a surface level, the story could end up paralleling Enjin's past where he observes a situation he doesn't like (two people fighting over something), takes a 'dangerous' action to try and improve the situation, and then somehow the situation becomes much worse and the cost of the action and resulting situation being 'something inhuman'. And then there's the obvious potential theory that Enjin dies somehow (kinda supported by Tamsy Caines going on his trip and 'preparing the sacrifice' as everyone else left for the doll festival). BUT I really doubt this since Gachiakuta has continually subverted troupes and expectations thus far, and I don't think that will change just yet.
Looking at the framing of Enjin on the last pages of Ch.166, he's placed in the middle of a bunch of circular lines and both his arms are framed similarly to the clock hands on the previous page so maybe that could tell us how long this fight will last (maybe a reach) or the timing of important moment, etc.
idk there's just a lot of deliberate information spread across over 20 chapters of build up and I think there's definitely something to find and piece together about what the cost will be, and what situation we'll end up in, but I'm pretty lost about what to do with all these numbers.
