For the past two years, I’ve been having escalating constipation that I suspect is due to anal stenosis (DX of Crohn’s for over a decade and perianal disease has been my biggest problem). I’ll be having an MRI soon to test that theory, but until then, it’s my #1 suspicion. Unless it’s outright diarrhea, I go through a lot of struggle to pass stool, even if it’s fairly soft and thin. An episode of syncope is practically a guarantee whenever I have a BM. I try not to strain but it’s unavoidable. During these episodes, I’ll experience fuzzy vision (static appearance), dizziness, slight confusion, excessive sweating, muffled hearing, and some tremors. None of that comes as a surprise to me because it’s what you’d expect upon triggering the vagus nerve.
The other day, I was trying to pass a BM after not having gone for a day and a half (I had taken a laxative a few hours prior to this). As expected, I feel the start of a syncope episode during some straining, but stopped and was able to avoid it. Maybe 10 minutes pass and while not straining, I’m hit with what I suspect could(?) be a seizure. The duration of this had to be between 30-45 seconds. Out of nowhere, I began to uncontrollably jerk my head and limbs, lost all vision (everything was a dark murky green with occasional blasts of bright green), began tasting an imaginary sweet taste, slumped over the toilet, lost awareness of surroundings, and was extremely confused. As I started getting my vision back, I had no idea as to where or who I even was. It was like someone erased my memories for a good 20 seconds. I wouldn’t say I entirely lost consciousness, but I believe I was pretty close to it. I’m thinking it might’ve been a seizure (non epileptic) rather than convulsive syncope, but I’m not a doctor nor have I ever previously experienced a seizure, so nothing is definitive. Has anyone else gone through something similar with their constipation?
