Got hit and it destroyed my bike last week on my homeward commute. She said she only saw the cars. I had the green and was coming through an intersection in the bike lane. She went for a right turn across the intersection and popped me across a lane and a half. I was yelling at her and she looked right through me. On impact I flew but only mashed my knees and wrist with some road rash. Aluminum frame and forks were bent. I raged and she remained calm and apologetic. I settled down after about 30 seconds of adrenaline fueled expletives that probably scared her as much as the impact scared me.
Yesterday, new bike, on my workbound commute I almost got hit in crosswalk by guy turning right as I entered and woman turning left towards me.
The rush hour log jam and kids going to school in momma's suv got to hear a mountain of terrible curses at high volume.
I just took a AAA Mature Driver Course to get a discount on insurance. The course is full of reminders about cyclists and pedestrians.
The average car bound cellphone addict can't see anything. Almost all drivers are either blind, oblivious, or outright resentful of cyclists on their road.
I have flashing LEDs and reflectors front and rear. I have a load booming voice, and often I am yelling, "pay attention" to drivers at corners and intersections. I must be insane for trying to share the road with 3000-80000 pound metal idiots.
