Hello everyone,
Answering who is the GOAT of Trackmania may not be the hardest question, but I often wondered who is the second best, who is the third best, who is in all time top 10?
That's why I've been working on tmrank, a ranking project based on tournaments placements from Liquipedia.
The default ranking is mostly an esports-focused view. It currently uses Tier 1 and Tier 2 tournaments, with some events (such as seasonal campaigns or Kacky) manually curated/removed if they do not fit that default view.
How the model works is it recalculates player ratings after each tournament based on their final placement and the strength of opposition. Ratings also fade with inactivity.
The site has a few different views:
- GOAT Top 20: an all-time ranking calculated as a mix of peak, longevity, average level, and major results
- Current Top 10: a present-tense ranking - who are the strongest players right now
- Major titles leaders: a view for major-event results only, with tooltips showing each player’s best podium finishes
- Rating Leader Timeline: who held the #1 rating at different points in time
- Alternate profiles: side rankings for formats like campaigns, Kacky, ZrT Cups, and World Cups. Some are separate from the default ranking, while others are additional lenses on events that may still count there.
A more in-depth methodology explanation is included on the site. I'd really appreciate feedback on whether the rankings feel reasonable, whether any events/profiles seem wrongly included or missing, and whether anything on the site is unclear or missing.
Happy to explain the choices I made and also happy to improve it based on community feedback.
