I’m at 55k miles and no extended warranty. I’ve had ongoing issues with my head unit and some of the accessories for a couple years now. The usb port for CarPlay hasn’t worked in idk how long. Maybe a month ago my screen went black. No radio noise besides static. The button backlights work and backup camera come on.
I haven’t seen any recent posts for this issue so hoping there has been a quick fix?
I tried the soft reset, checked all fuses, unhooked the battery, and then just because this is ridiculous, a sturdy punch to the dash above the head unit.
I called the dealership - they said they don’t have any other tips. They did say that there is a recall coming out for this issue for newer Toyota models (not the Tacoma).
Soooo, I’m looking into head units. Going to check the plugs behind the old head unit when I take it out. Any recommendations for a new one? Will probably call a junk yard first. But for aftermarket, I’d like all the same accessories (and maybe wireless CarPlay?). I need the steering wheel commands.
Couple questions, will I be able to reconnect the factory microphone or will I need to use one that comes with the aftermarket head unit? Will the backup camera integrate nicely?
