Should India consider shifting its capital further south?

I’ve been thinking about how geographically skewed India’s current capital location is. New Delhi sits in the far north, while a huge portion of the country—especially the south—is quite far removed from the administrative center.

What if India explored the idea of a more central or southern capital? For example, somewhere in Telangana (I recently came across a place called Arli T). Not saying this exact location is perfect, but using it as a reference point.

Some thoughts:

Potential advantages:

- Better geographic balance across north–south regions

- Could reduce perceived regional bias in governance

- Opportunity to build a modern, planned administrative city (like Brasilia or Canberra)

- May decongest Delhi and reduce pressure on infrastructure

Concerns / challenges:

- Massive cost and logistical complexity

- Historical, political, and symbolic importance of Delhi

- Security considerations (Delhi’s proximity to borders has both pros and cons)

- Would it actually improve governance, or just shift the problem?

Countries like Brazil and Australia have done this, but India is on a very different scale.

Curious to hear perspectives:

- Do you think India’s capital location affects governance or national cohesion?

- Would a second capital (like South Africa) make more sense than shifting entirely?

- Is this even worth considering, or just theoretical?

Looking forward to hearing different viewpoints.
