Renters Rights + Legal Advice (Where should I look?)
Hi all, I hope this is the correct subreddit to post to (sorry, if this should be in classifieds I apologise!)
I am merely looking to know if there is any place local I can reach out to or go to that might be able to help me with renters rights + renters legal advice regarding my current living situation.
Without too much fluff, my apartment has been without air conditioning since March 6th, and my landlord has said they will reimburse up to $100 on an AC unit. However, I believe renter's rights in city of Denton (Sec. 17-166. - Mechanical facilities.) require landlords to fully provide their own AC to their units starting may 1st through oct. 1st with reasonable room for any repairs.
It's been nearly 4-5 weeks of waiting on repairs and may 1st is quickly approaching, it's been 80+ degrees in my apartment on the hot days and we simply do not have the viable means to set aside money for an AC unit which I don't even think we are supposed to be buying with our own money? The apartment also has not been actually notifying us with proper mail, instead through email, so I suspect at some point I need to send them a certified request.
I know this is just a subreddit so I don't forsee any legal advice here, but does anyone know if theres anyone in the city I can contact or any legal consul that might be able to offer advice on this? I plan on calling the city code at some point to see if I can find answers there but thought maybe some fellow neighbors might have had similar experiences.
