With Governor DeSantis signing SB 1296 and HB 1279 last week, I’ve been thinking about education policy in Florida. The bills raise the threshold for union certification/recertification to require at least 50% participation and make some changes to how pay incentives work for high-performing teachers in lower-performing schools. This increases accountability and helps get raises to teachers faster who deserve it and prevent underperforming teachers and administrators from continuing to marinate in the system.
These changes are a step in the right direction for putting students first while supporting effective educators. What do others think?
Looking for civil discussion on K-12 education priorities here in North Florida.
