Did Emerald Twilight Put Anybody Off Of Kyle?

Did Emerald Twilight Put Anybody Off Of Kyle?

I had been having a good time reading all the Non-Alan Scott Green Lantern material for the first time. I just hit Emerald Twilight, however, and it's really soured the experience.

There was a surprising amount of groundwork there to turn Hal evil too. So many stories center around, not just villains like Sinestro, Evil Star, or Krona, but our heroes Hal, John, and Guy longing for power, control, and the comfort of a home. Hal himself has acted erratic when these things are kept from him in the past. Getting pushed too far after losing Coast City could have made a lot of sense.

But it doesn't here cause this story doesn't care about that history. It only cares about clearing the current status quo to make room for Kyle. How am I supposed to care about him after that? When 30 years of history is unceremoniously thrown away JUST for him?
