Music, as an art, attracts many people. The artist that chooses music is different. We see the world differently. Paul Reed Smith said that artists can predict some future events because they feel more than non-artists. I’ve found this to be true.

Musicians have a need to produce. Not for the attention, but because it fills a gap somewhere inside of us. Not a gap from bad childhoods, or abusive relationships. A gap we have that no one else has.

We are different by nature, and that is a good thing. Some people are savants at math. We know numbers from scales, intervals, key changes, and guitar and piano fretboards.

Some people have great inter-personal skills. We have our own version of people skills. We do too. We listen to audience feedback, we get promoters in our side, we sweet talk clubs into better house sound and lighting.

Musicians, true musicians, appreciate others playing their songs, bringing the joy to a packed house from their work.

So, if you’re an artist, a musician, you are rare. You have been given a gift that nobody can take away. Use it. Run with it, and embrace it.
