Women’s travel and making true friends
I work for Green Edventures and my specialty as a Tour Leader are women’s tours. I’ve been a Guide, Educator and Tour Leader for 29+ years. It’s my occupation and way of life, but it’s also a passion to help women discover the world in safe, supportive spaces.
Women rarely do this for themselves and have so many excuses not to travel. I love to make travel accessible to women of all ages. I had a 93 year old woman snorkeling on a tour in Roatan, Honduras! You’re never too old to travel. We also like to build up confidence and independence by working with women who have body insecurities, anxiety about safety or want to wait to travel until they “lose 20 pounds” or “it’s a better time with my job.” The time is now. Too many times I see women do emotional and regretting not doing things for themselves earlier. I hear “I wish I had done this when I was younger” and “all of the world to see and experience and I was so afraid to go.”
To be honest, I get more than I could ever give. I’ve made some of my very best friends on our tours. I’ve become part of a sisterhood that is one of my biggest treasures in life. I only grew up with one brother, but now I have HUNDREDS of sisters that check in on each other, encourage one another, console each other when life is hard. It’s something I never expected as part of a “job”. It’s such a treasure to find those like-minded forever friends that become a family.
I get to lead tours to Costa Rica, Honduras, Iceland, Africa, Mexico and other amazing places. The views and experiences are amazing. I’m such a lucky woman. However, the friends, that’s where I’m the most fortunate.
