Should I take a teaching prof position or keep adjuncting?
I recently finished my PhD in chemistry from an R1. My idealistic career trajectory from here would be postdoc to tenure track at a PUI or SLAC. Obviously things don't always go to plan and I didn't have a postdoc lined up after my PhD, so I spent the spring semester adjuncting at a PUI and applying to jobs. I just received an offer for a teaching professor position at a SLAC but the pay is very low- equivalent to how much I'm making as a part time adjunct. I could swing it for a few years, but it's in a high cost of living area and I could not afford to stay there long term.
My question is: if my goal is TT at a SLAC/PUI, should I 1) continue to adjunct part time, giving me more time to wrap things up from my PhD, apply for postdocs, and work on fellowship apps or 2) take the teaching prof position at a SLAC where I will have much less time for job apps/research, but will be a member of the department at the type of school I'd like to work at in the future.
