I saw a listing that looked too good to be true, so I tried to book it and the owner rejected my request and instead sent me an invoice to pay via a wire transfer, obviously outside of VRBO platform. What happens next is the biggest problem:

  1. There is no way to report this type of fraudulent activity neither on the website nor on the mobile app.
  2. I called them to report the listing, but two weeks after I reported the listing it is still there!

Here is the full timeline of this mess:

  1. On April 18 I sent a request to book that property
  2. On April 19 the scammers decline and send me that wire transfer form (attached)
  3. On Aprill 22 I call VRBO customer support to report this fraudulent listing.
  4. Today on May 6 the fraudulent listing is still there.

P.S. I found a similarly fraudulent listing on Airbnb where a scammer with a Superhost (or whatever it’s called) destination which he earned from renting a small condo in Sweden, then posted an identical looking property across different areas in Italy. I reported the property and it was gone within a few hours when I checked.
