So this is my case study with folliculitis. Been dealing with reddish bumps for years but until recently they started presenting with pustules, furuncles, and carbuncles. As you can often abscess-ing when irritated.
I tired, prescribed steroid creams, doxy, etc. nothing worked. So I went back to the doctor and said hey this other stuff is working we need a different approach. So we attacked it from the fungal angle and sure enough, we got results.
I was put on BACTRIM and TERBINAFINE oral. I also was presecribed to use Ketoconazole soap twice weekly, but I used it 4 times a week, you do what your doc tells you. All these medications are nasty stuff and they effects on your liver and you feel really drained if you don’t take with food a tall glass of water and a probiotic. Needless to say I am one week in and already clearing up. On days when I am not using the medicated soap, I use Benzo 10% soap so I never miss a day of treatment.
If you’re struggling to clear up there’s a good chance your doctor is prescribing meds that attack bacteria rather than the fungal properties of the underlying condition. Once the pustule’s start it open the door for fungus to flourish within. Ask your doctor about Malassezia and its interactions with staph, etc. it’s a common naturally produced yeast that thrives in damp conditions like the back of your neck. Also ask your doctor about taking an anti fungal probiotic they make specific ones for this type of thing.
Good luck….
