Was Aisha pubescent at the time Muhammad consumated the marriage? No
Many appologists say that Aisha was mature at the time Muhammad consumated their marriage claiming "maturity is required for marriage in Islam" with no further elaboration, and at best their source is a scholar.
That's completely wrong, there is no hadith which confirms that she was pubescent at the time, and there is no text which confirms that maturity is required for marriage in Islam.
Instead, there is this verse 65:4, but we need some context, in Islam, women who married and had intercourse have a period of 3 month after divorce in which they are forbidden from marrying another person again until that period passes.
The verse extends this rule to old women who stopped menstruating in case of suspicion... and those who 'DIDN'T MENSTRUATE YET'.
Appologists have a patch for this claiming "it means adults cases who are late with no menstruation"; that's wrong, Tabari exegesis which quotes the companions explicitly says it's those who are too young to menstruate.
So, pdf confirmed.
