Help us make the most of Patong

My boyfriend and I have 8 days booked on Koh Yao Noi and Kata Beach next week

We’ve just decided to arrive 2 days earlier to acclimate instead of going straight to the island. Logistically it makes sense to head to Patong to stock up and buy last minute items (boyfriend needs water shoes) but Patong is far from top of our list in terms of actual enjoyment.

Are there any non-trashy beach clubs with a fire show? Kata and Karon later in our trip seem short on beach clubs so it’d be nice to visit at least one. We prefer chill vibe rather than party.

Any good, down to earth restaurants or cafes walking distance from Courtyard by Marriott?

Lastly if we’d like to get a drink and people-watch on/near Bangla Road without being ping pong? ping pong’ed to death, where should we go?

Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Edit: forgot to add, we need to exchange money. What’s the equivalent of Superrich or T.T in Phuket?

Personal trainers at Pure Fitness?

Hi all! Female here. I’m a member of Pure Ngee Ann City. So far I enjoy using the cardio machines and taking group classes but in order to meet my goals I’ll likely need a PT.

I’ve heard though that Pure trainers are not as good as those in boutique gyms (because Pure doesn’t pay well or incentivise good trainers to stay) and they’re always trying to lock you into packages and upsell.

What should I look out for or what questions to ask when making an enquiry for a trainer? I don’t just want them to any how assign someone.

Unsure if I’m better off with a male or female trainer as well. I’ve observed the 1-2 female trainers and they seem to coach women who have never exercised before (a lot of form, balancing, endurance which is great) but I want someone I can progress with longer term, not just an endless loop of the same exercises.

Edit: I really like the big, clean gym and convenient shower set up especially in the women’s changing room (good for rushing to office) so prefer not to change gyms

Laura think she’s Bridget Jones!

I finally figured it out! Laura seriously thinks she’s Bridget Jones 🤮🤮🤮

Chubby but adorably quirky heroine ✅

Not conventionally attractive but still sexually desirable to all men that see her ✅

Dark mysterious stranger falls madly in love with her and pledges lifetime commitment ✅

Cad stringing her along has sudden, massive FOMO and battles for her love ✅

A whingy dishrag obsessed with her inner monologue, but somehow always comes out at the top and gets to take moral high ground ✅

Despite weight issues, inner beauty shines through and is evident to all ✅

Lost grip on reality but still the star of the show ✅

Reporter (well English teacher) whose genius is finally acknowledged ✅

…in her delusional self-righteous finger wagging glory that is 💩☠️☠️☠️

Edit: this is what Laura THINKS she is based on Bridget’s plotline. I’m not claiming she’s desirable or has inner beauty. Barf.

Edit 2: another lightbulb moment. In BJD, couples are called SMUG MARRIEDS and that is exactly what Laura became after she thought she and Beercan were a sure thing. FFS.

Kata restaurants and nightlife

Hi! We’re a couple and so excited to be in Kata for 4 nights at the end of May. It took ages to decide on a beach as there were so many options. Please recommend your favorite restaurants, cafes, brunch spots 🙏

While we don’t need to party, we’d love to have a couple of nights out, maybe somewhere for dinner with a vibe and drinks. My understanding is that there are no beach clubs. Are there any nice beach restaurants with an atmosphere? We especially like local Thai restaurants with live music, seafood bbq, that sort of thing.
