Hi, my friend got this question wrong and asked me for help, and I then proceeded to also get it wrong.
We both drew that O-H electron pair moving to the C-O forming a C=O as two steps as the ignore section had stated in the markscheme.
I did this in two steps because I would of assumed the Oxygen ion would of formed, given the electronegativity of oxygen; and then a LP on O- would move to the C-O bond to form C=O, is the most stable route.
Is this incorrect logic as that requires an intermediate step which isn't shown?
I am not sure if it could instead be because these two steps are frivolous and the overall displacement would simply be the markscheme answer?
