I’m trying to renew my Indian passport from Texas and had a question about the Green Card notarization requirement.

The VFS checklist says to submit a “notarized color copy” of the Green Card (front and back). But when I went to a notary in Texas, they told me Texas notaries generally cannot directly certify/stamp a photocopy of a government document.

So instead, they:

  • made a color copy of my Green Card,
  • had me sign a separate copy-certification affidavit,
  • and notarized my signature on that affidavit.

They said this is the correct Texas process.

For others in Texas who successfully renewed:

  • Did you use this affidavit-style notarization?
  • Or did your notary directly stamp/sign the Green Card copy itself?
  • Did VFS accept it without issues?

Just trying to avoid delays or rejection. Thanks!
