I applied for life insurance through USAA. I am generally in excellent health. I have been monitoring a borderline-hypothyroid, but my numbers have never been outside the normal range (just on the upper end). I recently started taking thyroid medication (3 months ago) for the sole reason that I want to start a family eventually and it's good to have the numbers in a lower-than-normal range for pregnancy. Well, that was a mistake. My application got denied (well, technically on hold for a year) because of a "thyroid condition"?? The underwriter said they want to see if my numbers "stabilize". Do they realize hypothyroid is extremely common and not at all fatal? Also, why do my numbers need to stabilize if they've always been within the normal range and I have never been diagnosed with hypothyroid? I'm so frustrated with the whole system and the opacity of it.

I'm going to apply with another broker and try again. I can't wait a year for USAA in case I get pregnant before then. Is there anything I can do on my application to better describe that I'm taking this medication voluntarily?
