THIS POST HAS SPOILERS UP TO THE END OF NONA THE NINTH
I have two questions about Harrowhark and Alecto. First, did Harrow actually breach the Locked Tomb as a child? How?? And second, is she actually schizophrenic or is she actually seeing the ghost of murdered Earth? I have my own theories, but I want to hear the community's thoughts, so please tell me what you think!
For the first question, I think she really did breach the tomb. Her memories and descriptions line up perfectly with the tomb we see at the end of NtN, and I think it's possible she could have used Gideon's blood to breach the seals. John insists that it's impossible, but otherwise how could she have seen Alecto?
For the second question, I think it really is Alecto's ghost. Harrow only started having visions *after* she breached the tomb, so she probably wasn't born schizophrenic. It could be argued that it was the trauma of her parents dying that caused it, but her visions of Alecto seem to know things that Harrow couldn't. I think the reason Alecto speaks using the voices of other people in Harrow's life has something to do with Nona's gift of translation. Throughout NtN, Nona can understand any language but her translations are always a bit weird, so I think the way she processes voices is fundamentally different than how humans do it. Similarly, when Alecto wakes up, she hears everything in Shakespearian English and even perceives herself as speaking that way, which I think implies that her voice actually changes every time she talks.
But again, what do you guys think? Did I miss a clue? An I completely wrong? Am I right on the mark?
