What was life like in rural Saskatchewan in the early 20th century?
In 1974, my great aunt produced a 15-page typed letter, detailing what her life was like growing up poor in rural Saskatchewan in the early 1900s - in a town called Punnichy. My father found it recently in the back of a drawer and gave me a digital copy.
She talks about her father's decision to move to Canada from England, some of the ways they made money (skinning rats!), family and local dynamics, and other topics. I thought it was a tremendously interesting window into the past.
I know so little about that time and place, that I don't quite know what specific questions to ask historians about it. My questions is really, 'what questions should I ask about this letter?'
