Old skateboard

Old skateboard

My first skateboard was The birdhouse. I remember that one being really heavy and then I changed to flip. Both are 7.75 and that is what I used to skate. It's been years since I've skated.

The birdhouse I had sold it and used that money to buy the flip deck. But a few years later I was walking home from school and I saw my deck in the trash. I couldn't believe it that it was the same deck, but I knew it was my because I had clear clear grip tape.

Does anyone still skate 7.75 anymore?

Hoodie Design based my skateboard design

Created hoodie design based off of another skateboard is on. The design has a lot of color in it and I think if I would go production I think I would want to rip out a lot of the color so it works on a limited screen run. Maybe like a 3-4 screen run.

Not sure if it reads well but I was trying to go with the theme of the seven deadly sins but with skulls.

Working on this drawing for a skateboard design. It's supposed to be the king of hearts. This is only the sketch / underdrawing. Once it's done I'll post an update.

I've been applying for jobs non-stop all year. And I've gotten several of these types of emails. I think it might just be me but I wanted to see you. Is this like the norm for HR to send these kind? Has anyone else been getting these emails too?

Is this a nice way to say we don't think your personality will match with our team. Not sure what to make of these emails. I've been getting them a lot lately.

I copied and pasted this email and removed the company name.

“I hope you are doing well. I wanted to personally reach out and thank you again for the time, effort, and thought you put into the interview process for the Graphic Designer opportunity with (Company Name) . We truly appreciated the chance to learn more about your background, experience, and creative approach.

After further internal discussions, the VP of Marketing and SVP of Brand & Growth have decided to move in a different direction with the overall hiring strategy for this role. This was a last minute organizational decision on our end and is not a reflection of you or your qualifications.

We sincerely appreciate your willingness to participate in the process and complete the project assignment. We know these steps require a significant investment of time and energy, and we are very grateful for your interest in (company name).

We wish you nothing but success moving forward and truly appreciate the opportunity to connect with you.”

I made a post about quitting the design industry. So I wanted to add some contents and show you guys a little bit of my work over the years. I got started in pre-priced production and over the years I've touched everything from branding to emails, trade shows, websites, presentations, large format printing, buying and selling promo items, direct mail, packaging, and marketing campaigns.

I taught myself how to code over the years. The languages I know how to code in is HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I think scripped in is probably the more complex thing I know when it comes to coding.

Here's the post I'm referring to:

Thinking of selling my Pokemon cards

I know it's nothing crazy but I have a lot of old stuff that I have not accounted for in this portfolio. Like an old pokemon manga with prom cards and unpunched vending series too. It's a mixed bag of sealed products and vintage. I have two completed sets (not master sets) and almost have all the topsuns cards.

I also have the first two sets of the marvel cards from 89 and 90 I think or they might be from 90 and 91. Only missing a few cards for those sets but I didn't add that to this either. This is all my Pokemon that I've accounted for so far. I added everything back in December and January. Haven't added much since then.

Wasn't sure if I could post the link here or not.

If I were to sell everything what's the most I could get? Or would it be best to piece it out?

I’ve been a designer for about 15 years, and I think I’m ready to call it quits.

Since 2024 I’ve been freelancing full-time, not by choice. The company I worked for sold the business and I was suddenly out of a job. I had to move fast and was lucky enough to pick up freelance work to stay afloat for a while, but it’s dried up to the point where I can’t keep going like this.

I’ve gone on more interviews than I can count. At this point I don’t even know what the issue is. Maybe I’m not as good in interviews as I thought. Maybe I’m not as personable as I think I am. Maybe I’m just not that strong of a designer. My last round of interviews felt solid, but in the back of my head I knew I probably didn’t get them, and I was right. Mostly ghosted.

What’s frustrating is I still get pulled in to fix print files from designers who have full-time jobs. So I know I can do the work, but I can’t seem to land anything stable.

The only thing that’s been going well is my drawing. I landed a small partnership from it, which is cool, but it’s not enough to live on.

In 2024 I landed a decent contract that carried me into 2025, and then another one after that. But both were temporary, covering for people on leave, so I always knew they’d end. One lasted longer than expected, but eventually it still ran out.

At this point I’m just questioning everything. I don’t know if I’m actually cut out for this anymore. I’ve applied to a ton of jobs, freelance gigs, everything, and haven’t landed anything solid in over a year.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m just burned out. Or maybe this just isn’t it for me anymore.

I guess I've applied for too many jobs on LinkedIn.

Honestly I can't keep track of half of the jobs I've applied for. Everything from graphic designer, to art director, to call center, night shift warehouse position, and even seasonal work.

I know you're not supposed to do that but even when I only target jobs in my industry they ghost me. Still at a list of words. I can't stand the job market being a shit show and hiring is really one sided but I'm not going to take my time when they don't even get back to me. I'll go through multiple rounds and never land the gig. I know that might be better than others but to feel like I'm so close so many times feels like a crude joke and I would not even bother anymore.

I saw the jackets were sold out, wasn't too surprised but insane how they are going for close to $300. The retail for this was $129 and on top of that this poor soul gotta dish out cash for shipping.

At this point I think my collection is good. I've slowed down a lot on picking any packs mainly because of the crazy pricing.

I created this hoodie design based on my drawing. I reworked the design to be a 1 color job. The front left chest just had my logo. Here is the hoodie mock up and the original artwork I created.

Let me know your thoughts on this design.

Created this hoodie Design awhile back. It's based on my own drawing. I designed it to be a 1 color job front and back. Front was my logo icon. The back is my drawing.

Let me know your thoughts.

I made these skins awhile back and wasn't what people thought of them. These were fun to make.

▲ 1 r/TShirt

I created this design for a skateboard. I really like the design and I was thinking a shirt could be another way to use the design. This is a mock up and I know I'll probably have to edit the graphics if it were to go to print.

Do you think this could work on a shirt graphic?

Is this too big?

u/FunnOcake — 20 days ago

I created this design using this artwork that I used for a deck. I drew everything in procreate but I really like the design and was thinking it could look nice on a shirt.

It's just a mock up but I would have to edit the artwork if I go to print.

What do you think?

Is this too big?

Could this work on a shirt?

I’ve partnered with Club Distribution as part of their Artist Series.

Back in January, I gave myself a challenge. One skateboard design every week. Draw everything in Procreate, record the process, and talk through the ideas.

When I posted the first 4 weeks here, someone from Club Distribution found my work here on Reddit and reached out.

Fast forward to now, and the decks are officially up on their site.

Didn’t expect any of this; I just started as a way to stay busy and keep improving. I couldn't believe this happened, and I feel extremely lucky to be a featured artist in their artist series.

I wanted to share this, since the last few posts I made didn't feel too upbeat.

Here are the 3 designs that dropped yesterday.

Week 2 - Puzzle Piece
Cup-O'-Skulls (Play on the Cup-O'-Noodles)
Cube Head
