[Online][Other][Friday 6:30 CST][18+] The Shard of Alkazar
Hello people! I am searching for a 5th (Kind of 6th) player for my now ongoing 2nd campaign in my own system Stars of Illdenflame.
The Pitch
The campaign itself follows the story of 5 characters of Nordic (inspired) decent from a city named Skolver located at Ingrad's Gulf within my world. The very first moments of the campaign begin with you describing how you were caught resisting the Order of Lurisnik which has now resulted in your execution. But this is no regular execution! The Eye of Alkazar is drawn upon your forehead and a spell is cast which will wither your body and appear to kill you, but you will awake in a strange new land to explore.
With the campaign now progressed you will be joining 8 sessions in. The "Shard" is a strange new land of vast deserts with extremely deadly creatures, and many other survivors sent there the same way you were. Obviously you will not be one of the original 5 thus it will be up to us to determine your origins.
We play on Foundry using the Custom System Builder which has allowed me to create fully functional character sheets for my own system, and GameVox as voice coms.
My Playstyle
The group of players and myself enjoy a good amount of roleplay right next to a good amount of tactical decisions and combats. Some sessions may be all fighting, others may be all talking. I don't force combat nor roleplay. If you only like one or the other however, you will be disappointed. I also take my game "seriously" meaning I put a good amount of work into the world, everything is made by me, and I would not consider it a "beer and pretzels" game.
There are darker themes. Things like racism, slavery, genocide, and various other atrocities. I treat these subjects with respect, and I do not dwell on them or use them excessively. My game is NOT a place to live out the real life fantasy of using slurs, and in most cases the PCs are fighting AGAINST these things. Other topics such as pretty much anything sexual are a strict no except for consensual "fade to black" scenes with PC and NPC consensual romance. LGBTQ+ relationships are perfectly accepted and in fact my last campaign ended with a lesbian marriage!
I do expect people to be reasonably consistent with showing up to my game. If you need to cancel I prefer having notice, but life happens. "No call no shows" are a very quick way to leave the group as I find it extremely disrespectful to everyone that kept their schedule clear. No third strike here, two strikes and you are out.
Finally I prefer very open campaigns so this will be very sand box, and I have zero expectations for what the players will do. However I do like campaigns to have endings, so naturally the world will progress to an end state and what that end state is will be determined largely by PCs. TO BE CLEAR this game is quite lethal. There have been 3 deaths in 7 sessions. 2 of those characters are still around due to "the Taking" which seems to revive people after death when they die on the Shard, but some things are worse than death.
The game is also largely a hex crawl. Many in game days will spent traveling, making camp, rolling for random encounters and weather, so on. I make diverse random encounter tables that are not combat slogs. For example five days of travel had 1 combat, a mirage, loot found from dead skeletons in the sand, a strange merchant with magic items, and simply seeing a battle in the distance.
Stars of Illdenflame
I will make this quick since you have already read enough.
- This is a full 300 page, fully formatted, art filled (human and commercially allowed) book
- D20 roll high + modifiers
- Skill based, classless, high customizable characters who follows non-restrictive Paths
- Combat is resolved simultaneously between all parties using my own Step System
- Player facing rolls in most cases except for hidden rolls and contested rolls
- Lower power, high lethality, dangerous ritual magic, martial character Techniques
- Similar "crunch" to P2E. Travel, carry weight, crafting, alchemy, etc. are in depth but still have a focus on being stream lined to not slow the game to a crawl
If all this sounds great, first thank you for reading! Second please submit an application here. I really appreciate people who put the time into reading this. I am a GM that spends a lot of hours and $$$ on my games with a huge love of the hobby so I hope you don't find reading all this too cumbersome.
