Sleeping bag for Amazon rain forest?

Should I bring a sleeping bag if i am going to to stay in the amazon rain forest for more than a week? Wondering if it will be too hot at night. I know it cools down but sleeping bags are normally very warm. Also seeking the smallest available since occupy space in my bag.

Might receive heat from writing this

I might receive a lot of heat. But my reason to come to Peru is not to visit Machu Picchu. I will be spending 2 weeks in the amazon rain forest in the north of Peru/Colombia. That sounds way more exciting to me.

I am flying back to Colombia/Mexico from Cusco and my purpose in Cusco is to go mountain biking and do some hikes. However, I hate big crowded places where there are tons of tourists. Since I live in Mexico I have access to tons of beautiful Aztec/Mayan sites. And trust me visiting Chitzen Itcha is not something I enjoy considering the amounts of tourists.

Machu Picchu will be there in 5 or more years and it is such a hustle to go there, let alone if you even got a ticket. Now I already found a ticket for the time I will be in Cusco, but haven't decided yet. All in all with train/bus it cost me 250 USD just for a day trip. Definitely not planning to line up like lots of people are doing.

Anyway, just wondering if there are other people that feel the same and have/are skipping Machu Picchu.

Hi i am going to Colombia at the end of the month coming from Mexico. And eventually going to Cusco in Peru.

Now I have a month in total for my trip. I would like to see the amazon and go mountain biking in the andes.

So far i haven't decided yet whether to go from Bogota to Lima and start my trip there. And enter the amazon from Puerto Maldonado.

Or start my journey from Bogota - Leticia and make my way down through Peru.

I found so far 2 options for amazon treks that won't break the bank but offer multi day tours. One is in Iquitos and the other in Yurimaguas both in Peru. I will also spend a couple days around Puerto Nariño near Leticia to get used to the jungle, before taking a boat to Iquitos.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Also seeking a guide for Puerto Maldonado/Manu national park again that won't cost thousands.

Hi

So I live in Mexico and flying to Bogota Colombia end of May and eventually make my way down to Cusco.

Since I don't want to stay too long in the city I am planning to go to Leticia Colombia. Not sure yet how long I stay there, but one plan is to go to Iquitos Peru. Now I would like to explore the Amazon.

I found so far one company in Iquitos called Yakumama Tours that don't seem to overcharge towards gringos.

Since I want to head towards Lima/Cusco. I thought to fly from Iquitos to Tarapoto. From there head towards to Yurimaguas where I found Huayruro Tours that seem to tick off all the boxes I want for a reasonable price. They offer 3, 5 and 12 day deep jungle treks without breaking the bank.

Then back to Tarapoto and take the bus to Chachapoyas and maybe further. Or fly from there to Lima for a couple of days to recharge and then fly to Cusco where I would like to spend at least a full week for mountainbiking.

Also read that going to Puerto Maldonado or Manu for the jungle might be worth it. However, I found most tours way overpriced. I be happy with a day trip to see whatever animals in the wild.

If anyone has any input/suggestions let me know. I think starting from Leticia might be a good plan so far, besides its only 80 USD from Bogota. I probably should buy my return flight already from Cusco/Lima - Bogota as prices go up.

I have a full month before flying back to Mexico from Bogota.

I am flying to Bogota from Mexico at the end of May and was planning a 2 week trip. But didn't realize there are presidential elections and there has been some terrorist attacks in the South towards Cali. I would like to visit the amazon in Leticia.

After Colombia I am going 2 weeks to Peru. But now I am considering skipping Colombia and fly to Peru instead.

Anyone who is in Colombia now knows the situation? how bad is it? will it get worse? last thing I want to be stuck between 2 guerrilla groups attacking buses etc

I mean we have shit here in Mexico but less aggressive

I am going to Colombia at the end of may for 2 weeks. I didn't realize there are elections and that there has been some terrorist attacks towards Cali. I was planning to visit the Cacau Valley etc but now might change my plans. Would it be better to come after the elections? when will that finish?
