Moved into this older home and there is a very old pear and apple tree that have been very neglected. The apple tree is coming back great with a decent prune, but the pear tree is in rough shape. Over half of the tree is dead, very brittle / dry and borderline rotten wood that just crumbles in my hand. I’ve cut off the bigger dead branches, and this is the new growth it’s got right now. Unsure if it will survive but I wanna give it the best shot.
Any advice on what I can do to help it out & try to bring it back? Are any of the lichens / fungus / bark cover hurting it?
