Hi all, wondering if anyone here can speak to their experience applying to a dual degree program during your first year at Wharton?
I'm a bit late to the game and cutting it close to the Wharton MBA enrollment deadline, but I just had the idea that it could potentially be very interesting to do a dual MBA/MSE -- I'd specifically be interested in the MSE in Data Science. I didn't apply in time for Fall 2026 admission, but saw in the FAQs that first year Wharton students are still able to apply to a dual degree programs. I tried doing a LinkedIn search but got very few hits of people who seem to have gone the dual MBA/MSE route so though to turn to Reddit :)
For context, I work in tech with a technical background, and I want to stay in tech post-MBA, using the MBA as a function pivot from platform to user-facing product.
Some specific questions:
- Was the bar for dual degree admission lower once you're already enrolled at Wharton (i.e. do they still require letters of recommendation, test scores, etc) or is it more of a 'sub-matriculation' kind of thing, where you mostly need to have a compelling reason for wanting the additional studies? As long as you meet the requirements, is it almost a formality that you'll be accepted?
- How quickly can you enroll in a dual degree and start taking classes in your non-Wharton degree program? Even before you officially enroll in the non-Wharton master's, can you start taking classes to fulfill some of that program's reqs? I'd ideally want to still be able to graduate in 2 years (especially due to cost savings), but not sure if that's feasible unless you're already dual-degree from the start.
