Yale economics or engineering

I will be attending Yale next fall! That being said, I am interested in law, but my parents really want me to have engineering under my belt. I am considering majoring in engineering and minoring in economics. Would I be less likely to be an attractive patent lawyer if I pursued environmental engineering? I want to do Big Law, so what are my options? Do I have to do patent law if I did engineering, or could I do something else?

If doing just economics ends up being right for me, I will do that. I don't have any lawyers in my family, so I think my parents are a bit scared of the unknown (law school).
