I’m 19 and in college, and I’m thinking about getting an electric skateboard mainly just for fun, cruising around campus, and maybe grabbing food downtown nearby.

I’m looking for something with at least ~20 miles of range. I’m 6’3, 180 lbs. I’ve ridden regular skateboards before, but only casually (like a few times every couple months), so I wouldn’t say I’m super experienced. Never used an electric one, though.

From what I’ve seen, longboards seem like the safest and most stable option, which I like, but I also wouldn’t mind something a bit more portable if it makes sense.

I also don’t really care about crazy speed. I’d actually prefer to stay under 20 mph. I would prefer being able to go over decently large bumps with thicker tires, around or a bit over 100mm

The main concern from my parents is that I’m tall and not super experienced with skating, which is fair. But every time I’ve skated, I’ve genuinely enjoyed it, and I’ve always thought about what it would be like if I didn’t have to keep pushing. I would prefer going about this in a way that my parents wouldn't be scared or upset about me riding, even though I could just buy my own skateboard without them knowing.

I also want something that’ll last a while, ideally like 4–5 years if I take care of it. My budget is around $1000.

Any recommendations or advice would be really appreciated 👍

Edit: The roads aren't very smooth where I live, and I would be taking this on the plane once every 2 months. I am fully aware that I don't need my parents' permission. I want to find a compromise or a way to reduce the worry they already have.
