PSLF-Need Advice
I need advice about next steps with Mohela, I apologize in advance for the lengthy breakdown.
Since I moved over from another loan company when I switched into PSLF in 2024, I have never been provided a number amount I owe due to overpayment. At the previous company I was paying $610 a month (what they said I owed) and my work gives a stipend of $200 monthly. When I was moved to Mohela, this means I had an overpayment and my monthly amount due was $0. On autopayment the total amount I owed on each loan stated $610, but "Regular Monthly Payment Amount" on my statements from Mohela says $441.
I have contacted Mohela twice to determine the actual amount I owe to ensure I was paying enough to count towards my PSLF. They could not confirm $441 versus $610, only restating my AutoPay is $610.
Recently I received a recertification letter on March 23, 2026 stating if I do not recertify by May 22, 2026 that I will owe $798 per month. I took a look at my statements and realized my April statement says my "Regular Monthly Payment Amount" is already $798. I looked back and my previous statement in January stated I owe $441 and my March statement states I owe $573 (I had not recertified at this point). After a very long conversation with someone at Mohela, I was directed to talk with a supervisor but told that all my monthly statements were wrong. I have owed $610 the entire time and my overpayment has only been the $200 from work.
During this process, I recertified and per FASFA I will owe $793 starting in August due to overpayment. Because of the errors in their system, they are giving me a processing forbearance and stated that the forbearance time will still count towards PSLF. I am so close to PSLF forgiveness (Nov 2027). I am worried all of this will mess it up and I also don't trust that if I don't pay during forbearance that it will count. Has anyone had wrong numbers on their statements? Has Mohela ever switched amounts owed randomly or had wrong payment amounts on their statements? Does "processing forbearance" count towards PSLF or delay anything?
