Advice on articleship🙏🏽
I joined an upper mid-sized firm in January without being very sure about which domain I wanted to pursue. The firm had told me that there was no fixed domain allocation and that it would depend on vacancies, so I assumed I would get broad exposure across different areas. Before joining, I did quite a bit of research and most people spoke very highly of the firm.
However, after joining, I was allocated to listed client statutory audit, and honestly, the experience has been extremely exhausting. The workload feels relentless, the environment in my team is quite toxic, and I genuinely feel more like labor than someone who is supposed to be learning during articleship. I also don’t see much possibility of being shifted to another department.
At this point, I’m confused about whether I should simply tolerate the situation and complete the remaining two years for the sake of stability and brand value, or whether I should take the difficult route of leaving and joining another firm that aligns better with my interests and career goals.
Which I’m still not sure that what i want ultimately.
The problem is that the firm is very strict about not allowing articles to leave midway and they strictly don’t allow industrial training as well, so if I decide to move, I would likely have to face a lot of resistance and conflict.
