My daughter was gifted an old cast-iron bed. She (feels constricted sleeping on it bt the headboard and footboard and) would prefer just to use the headboard. That said, the old side rail “jigsaw” type of attachment (see photo) will not attach to a modern metal bed frame (ie basic metal frame that would support a mattress).

Wondering if anybody has retrofitted an old headboard like this with a modern frame, and if you would be willing to share how you did this?

We prefer not to attach the headboard to the wall and are starting to feel somewhat resigned to the fact that there may not be a reasonably straightforward solution.

Tia for any suggestions!
