Hi! In my endless rabbit holes before and during recovery, I couldn't find anything super concrete to help me know what to expect here, so I guess I'll share!
I had my hysterectomy on March 17, removed everything except the ovaries. I had a bit of endo, a fibroid, and a couple other things but nothing unexpected. Recovery was way smoother than I expected, I took pain meds once to sleep after I got home, but it was just advil and tylenol from then out.
ANYWAY, to the point. I was cleared to work out at my 6 week post op appointment on May 1. My doctor checked my cuff and said I'd be good to try anything (ease back into it, obviously) to my tolerance level.
Prior to surgery, I was very active. Lifting 3x a week, running 3x a week, and pilates 1x/week. And lots of walking. So I was eager to get back to it. I walked a lot during my recovery, my Oura ring says my 30-day avg steps is 9k.
Saturday: 20 min walk/run on Peloton
Sunday: 30 min walk/run on Peloton
Monday: Lower Body Lift - about 1/3 of my weight capacity pre-surgery to be conservative. Felt fine after.
Tuesday: Upper Body Lift - about 80% of my weight capacity pre-surgery. Felt fine during—absolutely SMOKED after.
Wednesday: Took a rest day.
Thursday: 20 min walk/run on Peloton
Honestly, this has all felt way better than I expected. Some ab stuff has felt a litttttle weird, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with my first week back. I decided to go with beginner walk/runs on Peloton and bump my pace targets down a level knowing I have a personal tendency to overdo it. It was a good way to hold me accountable, and I'll probably stick with that approach for the next couple weeks.
Hoping to add my third lift back in next week, but we'll see how I feel.
Happy to answer any questions!
