I am a former federal employee who retired in 2017. I kept my federal employee health benefits. I just became eligible for TRICARE in December 2025. On January 13 I sent form RI 79-9 requesting a suspension of my federal employee health benefits. From my understanding, the suspension would be effective 2/1/26. I have been charged $890 in March, April and soon to be May for insurance I don’t need and I’m not using. Like many others. I have tried to call OPM at various times and always get the message that they have a high volume and I am to call back. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? I did use the online ticket and the response was that they had received my form and I am in the queue.
