Advice EPIC PM role vs hospital QI or admin role
I’m currently a clinician with five years of experience making around $92K, but after feeling burnt out, I went back to school for my MBA to pivot more into healthcare operations/project management. I’m now in the final interview stage for a Project Manager role at Epic, while also considering potential PM or quality improvement opportunities within hospital systems. Epic has always been a company I admired, and I’m excited by the idea of moving somewhere new, traveling for work, and challenging myself in a faster-paced healthcare technology environment. At the same time, I’m trying to think realistically about career growth, lifestyle fit, and what this move would look like as someone closer to 30 rather than a traditional new grad.
I’d love honest insight from current/former Epic employees or people familiar with the PM role:
- Given that I have a master’s degree and prior clinical experience, what is the typical starting salary/rate for a Project Manager at Epic?
- How easy is it to pivot or leave Epic after a few years, and what types of roles do former Epic PMs typically move into?
- What is the dating and friendship scene like in Madison for non-new grads who are closer to their 30s?
