Moving from one of India’s largest insurers to a small/mid-sized broking firm… a bad career move?

considering a move into commercial insurance broking at a smaller/mid-sized firm.
The role itself seems interesting because it’s more solution-oriented, involves working across multiple insurers/products, and gives broader client exposure compared to being tied to a single carrier.
But I’m slightly worried about the long-term career perception.
Would moving from a large established insurer to a smaller broking firm negatively affect my career trajectory later on?
For context, the firm isn’t one of the large global brokers, but it has been around for 22 years and seems to have a stable, growing business. The role would also likely give me more responsibility and exposure early on.

Hey guys,

I’m an ex-founder and currently in the process of applying for roles (Founder's Office / Strategy / Sales / BD kind of stuff).

I built a startup from scratch handled everything end-to-end: sourcing, product, supply chain, pricing, sales, even offline activations. Basically did whatever it took to keep things moving.

Now I’m trying to translate that into a CV, and I’m a bit confused about what actually matters to recruiters vs what just sounds like “founder fluff.”

For example:

  • Should I focus more on metrics (revenue, margins, CAC, etc.)?
  • Or more on ownership + problem-solving?
  • How deep should I go into operations (supply chain, logistics, etc.)?
  • Do people care about failures/lessons, or just outcomes?

Would really appreciate if anyone here (especially recruiters or ex-founders) can share what worked for them.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

I’m an ex-founder currently exploring a move back into corporate and trying to figure out the right approach.

Would love to hear from people who’ve made this transition:

1.What kind of roles did you apply for? (Founders’ office, strategy, product, ops, etc.)

2.Did you stick to similar work you did as a founder or pivot to something else?

3.How was your founder experience perceived by recruiters/hiring managers?

Most importantly, how did you position your experience on your CV? What did you highlight vs avoid?

I’m finding it tricky to package founder experience it feels broad, but not always translating cleanly into typical job descriptions.

Any advice, examples, or even mistakes to avoid would be super helpful. Thanks
