The Transportation & Parking Commission approved a proposal that would significantly change Pelanconi Avenue and the surrounding streets, despite multiple residents showing up to voice strong opposition. Their plans were not widely made known to the neighborhood before the meeting. This will significantly narrow the street, add bicycle traffic to this quiet street, and cut parking for people living in nearby apartments. It will make the streets very unsafe!!
Now, it’s headed to the Glendale City Council for a final vote.
Here’s what’s at stake:
🚗 Loss of parking on an already impacted street, especially nights and weekends
🚲 The Addition of a bike lane that would create safety concerns when they dramatically narrow Pelanconi
🚧 Large curb bump-outs that could disrupt traffic flow and eliminate even more parking
🌳 Changes to the look and character of this historic neighborhood street
💸 A costly project using taxpayer dollars that the street doesn't need and many residents don't want
The proposal includes bike lanes along Pelanconi between Kellogg and Glenoaks, along with other traffic changes that could permanently alter the neighborhood. The proposed bike lane doesn't extend to San Fernando on Pelanconi but would add unnecessary traffic from cyclists, making this quiet street dangerous - the opposite of what city engineers are proposing.
If you care about this neighborhood, now is the time to speak up.
