Ducklings ate Styrofoam

My parents just got baby ducks and they are around 3 days old. They felt the water dispenser they got might have a big enough holes that they might sit in and drown over night so they carved a piece os styrofoam to go around it to make the holes smaller. I got home from work and noticed they had all been chewing on it while i was making dinner. They said its been on for three hours and there are some small chunks taken out. Ive read other stories here that say they love the stuff but it doesnt always have a bad outcome but nothing about the younglings. Should i be worried/is there anything i could even do about it other than checking their vents? Any advice or experience would be appreciated:)
