I'll never say it hinders anything, as it allows for replayability and for casual players to tune things they don't like.
However I personally buy games for the challenge that the developers intended, not just to experience what I am comfortable with.
There are also recent games that really try to mask the whole thing to make it feel less like handicaps and more like a variety of modifiers (Saros). As creative as it is, it doesn't remedy my problem with it.
Curious on others opinions on this.
