In a predicament! I‘m a theatre student and I have an audition due in a couple days for a local professional Shakespeare theatre’s upcoming season.

Unfortunately the Shakespeare monologues I usually go with are Miranda’s from The Tempest which they are currently doing and As You Like It which they’re about to do so these feel like a faux pas to do.

The only other monologues I am super confident with are Viola’s from Twelfth Night. I love these to pieces and am most confident with them but I’m aware of the stigma on how overdone they are.

I don’t think I have time to earn all new material because I’m in school and have exams/finals all this week, so here are my options:

  1. Miranda From the Tempest but they’re doing that now and may be tired of it

  2. Beatrice from As You Like it but they’re doing it very soon and may be tired of it

  3. Viola’s “Make Me a Willow Cabin“

  4. Viola’s “I Left No Ring”

  5. Wait until next year to submit an audition

What would you do?
