The Pediatric Fight: How It Was Defeated

Edit: posted prematurely - scrambling to fix grammatical errors and add more context - OKAY DONE NOW, SORRY! :)

Hi! I was lurking in here when my child (2 yo) battled molluscum and we were able to fight it off! It started as 1 bump behind his knee, which quickly became more small bumps going up his leg. I knew plenty of kiddos that had this and their parents just let it take its course for the year+ it took to finally be resolved.

I’m stubborn and didn’t want to wait so I went the medicated route.

Once I realized what it was, I immediately went straight to a pediatric dermatologist and began treatment with YCANTH.

This (budget wise) is not for the faint of heart and I do understand how privileged I am to have been able to afford it. I ended up doing 4 rounds of treatment that cost me $1,000. Because the treatment makes the bumps blister, it was difficult to have it not spread at its most contagious point, which is why it took so many treatments (in my opinion). It ended up spreading up his leg into his butthole. It was pretty gnarly and he probably had 50+ bumps when it was all set and done, but that last treatment is what really put his immune system in overdrive to start attacking the bumps and ultimately eliminating them.

My child literally had no issues with the blisters - even the ones near his butt cheeks. It was by no means a traumatic experience. He was still a happy baby.

Would I do it again if I had the funds? 100%. His were in an area that, given the season, would have not been covered so there was no way for me to hide it under clothing to avoid infecting others.

Molluscum is awful and I feel for y’all. I hope nothing, but the best for anyone battling this gnarly rash. I hope my success story helps!
