Family was actually right for once
Mom’s side always said they were from England and Europe. Dad’s side said Scotland and England. They were pretty much spot on! (And yes, I see that 2% from Africa and have a pretty good idea which branch of the family that came from)
I’ve been able to trace paternal grandmother’s side back to the 1700’s and when they first came over to the US. Paternal grandfather’s side is still at a dead end, unfortunately. Maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother’s sides have both been traced way back, too.
DNA results did lead to one big breakthrough on the paternal grandfather’s side. We’ve been trying to locate someone’s mom and the person we thought it was didn’t entirely match so we‘ve been looking for a different person. But I matched to 30+ descendants of the person we originally suspected so we think that it is her after all! I’ve not had time to deep-dive but I’m really exciting to have some more conclusive proof.
