I’ve been needing to take some DEEP breaths around some of the BHTs this year. I would like to first state that many of the BHTs that come into the school are WONDERFUL! There are two women specifically that I wish I could clone ten times over, genuinely.
However, there are some that I want to grab by the shoulders and shake SMH! One girl (and I mean girl, it’s her first year and she can’t even be 20 years old yet) is batshit insane. I could go on and on and on about the crazy shit she does but I don’t want to risk being identified. Just know that she had a meeting with her supervisor a few weeks ago regarding MONTHS of complaints from faculty and staff in ALL areas of the school, and then the next week was spotted napping on the floor in the middle of class.
Another guy is considerably late 3 out of 5 days a week at least, and is on his phone from the minute he gets there until he leaves. He sits in the back of the classroom with a phone charger!
It’s to the point where I/other paras are managing their students because they can’t be bothered to pay an ounce of attention. I of course don’t mind helping out, but if you are in the same room and asking what happened after a situation 6 feet in front of you, maybe put the phone down/wake the hell up.
Gosh I wish I could rant about the crazy things that drive ME crazy but I am so paranoid of being identified.
Just know they include, but are not limited to, repeatedly humiliating their student in front of his class for potty accidents, leaving their student unattended outside so they can complete paperwork, losing a non-eloping student multiple times just from not paying attention, critiquing the speech/OT providers with 30+ years of experience, waiting to use the restroom until their student is done with their break and about to transition to work, removing students from classes the BHT finds boring (their words, not mine!), etc.
Both of their supervisors have been contacted multiple times. One is totally understanding and is trying to ride out the end of the year, the other is just as insane and is no help at all.
Again, I am so grateful for the wonderful BHTs who put in the work and show up day in and day out. The classroom could not operate without them! However, the bad apples are seriously driving me nuts smh.
