Strep throat and travelling

Hello,

I need advice.

I have textbook symptoms of Strep throat and I’m getting a rapid test in a few hours. I’m deathly afraid of having to take antibiotics as I am 5 month post C diff, one occurrence treated with vanco.

The main problem is, I’m leaving for Chile/ Argentina to do a 3 week road trip in the desert in just 5 days. I can’t allow myself to have c diff there, that would actually be a nightmare, oftentimes there aren’t even any hospitals where I’m staying.

I’ll update or delete this if my test is negative but otherwise, what do I do?? Is it safer for me to let my body get rid of strep itself (I’m already feeling better than the past few days), or should I risk it with the antibiotics? My worst nightmare is c diff starting in the middle of nowhere. Last time I couldn’t even sleep because the cramps were so bad.

Update: Rapid test came back negative for strep A. So it’s either something viral, or Strep B. Which doesn’t need treatment in adults. The rapid test is not 100% reliable but the nurse told me that undetectable cases are often not severe cases and usually heal on its own. I’ll tough it out 🤷🏼‍♀️
