I’ve done it!
This is my second year teaching SPED. Interrelated resource, so not any severe disabilities. Needless to say it was not my jam. I hated the paperwork, juggling 100 different responsibilities in a day, and surrounding myself with people who overwork themselves to be decent at their jobs. I tried leaving last year, but had to go back another year because I didn’t prepare enough.
Anyway, I accepted an offer to work at a university and I am so excited! I will be working with a research team focusing on providing assistive technologies for people in my region of the state. It took a lot of effort, and a lot of preparation. I had to learn how to do interviews, and how to compete by making myself look like the best damn applicant they got. About started applying for teaching jobs again because time was running short, but I signed the offer today! I’m so glad I found something, and it’s genuinely something I think will be a good fit for me. I’m not even bummed that I’ll work over summer because guess what… I’d have to go back to work in August regardless of where I work. I don’t mean to make it sound like I’m bragging, I am just wanting to share my victory with others who have been doing this battle with me.
