My friend recently bought a house and left their rental house. They lived there for 4 years. They have 2mos deposit amounting to 1,600, landlord wants to return just the 200. He said he spent huge amount in repainting, carpet cleaning, professional cleaning. My friend and her husband deep cleaned the place for days before moving out. We believe the landlord spent for normal wear and tear as they have resided in the place for 4 years. She's asking the landlord to give even just a month of deposit and he insists of just giving back 200.

My friend is checking deposit scheme using their details but she couldn't find them in all of the scheme.

Is this normal? How to proceed with this?
